A word from Michael: "The inspiration for the collaboration started from a phone call with a friend who lives in Washington DC. He was telling me about the upcoming World Pride that DC will be hosting. I had been wanting to do an architectural/travel focused design and began looking at how cities around the world celebrated Pride.

When I saw the photo of the Sydney Opera House from Sydney World Pride 2023, I started looking for other iconic buildings washed in rainbow colors and the rest came together easily.

The name Pride Is Global is a reminder that the LGBTQ+ community is everywhere around the world. Whether you are out and proud, an Ally, or just love architecture, I hope you enjoy what we have come up with."

A word from Willow: "Anyone who truly knows me knows how much I love classic rock. Many of my rowing friends would say that I am a very colorful person. I like to stand out on the water and love to wear bright, colorful unis. I have a collection of over 40 unis, about half of which have custom designs JL helped me create. I was honored to be given this opportunity by JL to create a design for their 2025 pride collection. I wanted to create a design that makes a statement, incorporating elements from rowing, music, and my passion for being a part of the LGBTQIA+ community – all of which have influenced the personality that I have today.

As many know, I am a Proud nationally competitive transgender athlete. Before Coming out, when my dysphoria was at an all-time high, I used rowing and listening to music as an escape. These two activities allowed me to temporarily feel at home in a body that did not feel like mine, and I partially credit them for saving my life. After transitioning, I was able to enjoy these activities for simply my shear passion and being my true authentic self. Today, there is a lot of anti-trans rhetoric being spread around, which brings me back to relying on rowing and music as an escape to keep my mental health in check.

While trying to think of a design concept, I was in my car listening to Pink Floyd's "The Wall" (which I can credit my dad for my love of), and the inspiration came to me: Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon” album. I have always loved the album cover due to its bold simplicity. Being trans, to me this album cover represents a transition or a transformation similar to that of a butterfly. An ugly caterpillar represented by the white light goes into a transition by making itself a safe and protective chrysalis, which is represented by the prism. Eventually, it emerges as a beautiful butterfly, represented the rainbow light spectrum. Unfortunately not every trans person is afforded that protective place to transition. I was very fortunate to have a good, supportive group of friends and family that allowed me a safe space to transition and become that beautiful butterfly. This is why I am Proud to share my design 'metamorphosis of light' with all of you."
